MD - Heather Bates

I first discovered my joy of singing aged 7 when I became a member of Brambleside School Choir (despite my mum thinking I couldn't sing!). Since then, I have taken part in many concerts and competitions either as a soloist, as part of a duet or part of a choir. As well as this, I have undertaken several exams gaining qualifications that mean my mother finally realised I might be able to sing!

I enjoyed many years as a member of Masquerade Youth Choir, under the leadership of Barry Clark, before leaving to attend Loughborough University, where I studied Criminology. Fast forward three years and a graduation ceremony, I was back singing with Barry but this time as part of Belcanto, a choir that I am still a member of now.

I am pleased and excited to be taking on my first MD role with Seagrave Singers and hope to bring a sense of fun to rehearsals, not forgetting the hard work too!

I hope to see you all at future concerts, or even rehearsals if you are thinking that Seagrave Singers may be for you!

Gill

Accompanist - Gill Bland

Gillian (or Gill) was born in Easington County Durham, the eldest daughter of a methodist minister. Consequently she lived all over the country.

When aged 17yrs, the family moved to Desborough and, following the sixth form at Bishop Stopford school she began her nurse training at Kettering General Hospital.

In 1987 she married Andrew. They have three grown up children, Anna, David and Sally. Gill currently works as a teaching assistant at St. Andrews School, Kettering.

Gill's hobbies include, swimming, reading and of course ~ playing the piano! Her first lesson was at the age of 5yrs when her family lived in Bude, Cornwall. She feels very fortunate in being "surrounded by music" as both her sisters and daughters are pianists.

At church, she regularly plays the piano for services as part of a team of singers and musicians. She finds it great fun to share ideas, and listen to, the other musicians.

Gill is delighted to be appointed as accompanist to The Seagrave Singers. She feels it is a wonderful opportunity to develop as a musician and is looking forward to working with everyone and becoming part of the team.
